Where is the Ark?

QUESTION:

Can you please tell me where the holy ark is?

Gertina

ANSWER:

Gertina:

Thanks for the question, and you speak of a great mystery. The short answer is that no one knows the location of the holy ark, if it even still exists somewhere. Well, I guess God knows.

The origin of the holy ark goes back to the days of Moses (Exodus 25:10-22; 31:2, 7; 35:30-35; 37:1-9; Deuteronomy 10:1-5).

The size of the holy ark was about four feet long, two and a half feet wide, and about the same deep. It was very ornate in its construction. The function of the holy ark is seen in Numbers 10:35, 36, where it seems to be a symbol of God’s presence to guide the people, and lead them in battle.

It was the most sacred of the items in the tabernacle. It contained a copy of the original stone Ten Commandments, a golden pot of manna, and the rod of Aaron that budded.

After hard times fell on Israel because of their rebellion against God, the holy ark disappeared. Some say that the ruler of Egypt, Shishak, robbed the temple of this most holy object (1 Kings 14:25-28).

Jeremiah, in speaking of the future reign of Christ, gives us this insight, “they shall say no more, ‘The ark of the covenant of the Lord.’ And it shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they miss it, nor shall it be made again” (Jeremiah 3:16).

Jeremiah spoke at the time when the Babylonians captured and destroyed Jerusalem in 587 B.C., and indicates that the holy ark was probably destroyed at that time. Some believe that the ark was secreted away and hidden somewhere. But, if that was the case, Jeremiah would not say that it would not be made again – indicating that it was destroyed.

Thanks for the question,

All the best, and God bless

Dr. Newman
