Question related to missions answered by Dr. Newman

QUESTION:

In St John chapters 13-17 write all Scripture related to missions. I found John 14:1-6 and John 17:17 can you tell me what else?

Vera

ANSWER:

Vera: The chapters that you give are not all directly related to missions, as I understand missions. However, mission work is loosely defined, and means different things to different people. Missionary work is where you go out and plant or start Christian work where none exists. That can be in another country, or within an ethnic group or unreached segment within our own culture. Missions can also be closely related to evangelism work, and could include radio, TV, or even internet work. Some classic missions verses in the New Testament include the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15, 16; Acts 1:8, and even Romans 10:14, 15. The best verse in the section you mention in John would be John 15:16 where Christ teaches that we are to go bear fruit, and the fruit should remain. I take that to mean evangelism and discipleship. Hope this helps, Vera. Dr. Newman
