Advise on marrying someone older from Dr. Newman

QUESTION:

I would like seek your advise on marrying an elderly partner. My nephew is in love with a woman who is one year elder to him.Now me & his mother are a bit confused whether to consent his marriage or not.The said woman also follows the bible teachings as we do.I went through the bible but couldn't find any verses which talks about the age of a marriage partner.Could you please advise me on this.

Bijosh

QUESTION:

Bijosh:

Thank you so much for stopping by our website, and for your question. No verses in the Bible dictate the age differences within marriages – that I know of. An example would be Abraham and Sarah, who had a 9 or 10 year age difference between them (Genesis17:1, 17). Based on that, your nephew and potential bride are ok.

The important thing is that they are both believers in Christ and follow the Bible. It would be very difficult for a Christian and a Hindu, or follower of Islam to be married.

All the best, and God bless.
